We made a pie after school the other day — an apple pie, by request. Maia went to an apple orchard with her class recently and came home with a backpack full of apples. She's been talking about what she'd like to do with them ever since.
First it was apple sauce. Then she wanted to make apple turnovers. And finally, apple pie.
Maia was in charge. I was simply the sous chef who got to peel apples and help decipher the recipe. She measured and mixed and created.
She piled the apples in the crust and decided what kind of top crust she wanted (a pumpkin cut out of the center with several radiating vents cut by her).
It was a good pie. I wish I had taken a picture before we ate it, but alas, I was thinking with my stomach.
