Heart Applique T-Shirts for Valentine’s Day

Valentines Heart Shirts

I made these heart applique shirts yesterday as Valentine's gifts for Maia and Daphne. While they were last minute in execution (and luckily very quick), I have intended to make them for quite a while now.

The appliques are simply floral knits from old baby shirts that Daphne has outgrown. I cut hearts from the material and sewed them to the T-shirts, skipping the Wonder Under I often use. I added some pink rick rack trim along the edge for extra girly decoration.

That's it! Just a quick show and tell today! Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm off to the mac store to drool over ipads….

I am a beginner sewer and was wondering how you finish the edges, if you do at all? Or do you just leave them? These are so cute and would love to try my hand at something like this. Do you use a zigzag stitch?

Hi Lindsay. Usually I just use a zigzag stitch to finish the edges on an applique, but I didn’t this time. Knit fabric doesn’t unravel, so I just left the edges as is.

I made two today for my girls’ with pink shirts we already had (with stains to hide!) and a white and pink floral baby gown I found at the thrift store. Thanks for the idea! (I didn’t use rick rack but used the decorative heart stitch on my machine all the way around. Super cute!)
