Today I’m sharing a giveaway and some exciting news from Pop and Lolli, one of my lovely blog sponsors.
Pop and Lolli sells fun kids wall stickers.
Started by Mia, a former Disney Imagineer who grew up in rural South Africa, the company sells beautiful and whimsical wall stickers and wallpaper to bring nature and imagination indoors to children’s spaces. In addition, Mia set up a sister charity to her business and for every purchase made, she donates a portion of the sales to helping kids in need in her home country.
(I was intrigued by her charity, (It’s) Chic 2 Change, last time I wrote about the Pop and Lolli kids wall decals and this time Mia agreed to answer a few questions about both her background and her charity. You’ll find the interview below.)
But first, let’s hear the NEWS and take a PEEK at some of the amazing wall stickers and wallpaper that Pop and Lolli sells…

Interview with Mia about Chic 2 Change
JEAN :: Can you tell me how Chic 2 Change got started?
MIA :: When we started Pop & Lolli we thought it would be great to commit from the get-go to help people that might not have the privileges that we have. It was important for us to commit to donating starting with our first sale, and to use any success that Pop & Lolli might be blessed with to help children in South Africa.
With each donation, (It’s) Chic 2 Change will work with its partners in South Africa, Acres of Love, to evaluate each individual recipient according to their most important educational needs.
(It’s) Chic 2 Change! Enjoy, Experience, Appreciate & Love, to Provide Hope & Change
Since our launch on 10-10-10 to date we have donated over $100, 000 to our sister charity (it’s) Chic 2 Change, with the help of some generous fundraisers, and have had the opportunity to change children’s lives in South Africa immensely.
JEAN :: What was your inspiration in combining business with charity?
MIA :: I grew up in South Africa – in a super small, rural part of the country. And I was blessed to be given the opportunity to move abroad to the US, get my Masters in Architecture degree from a highly acclaimed Architectural institute and to work as a Disney Imagineer for almost 5 years. It is extremely important for me to give back.
It’s a start; however small it may be. It’s a start to transform the notion of buying and to re-define the process of manufacturing. It’s a new philosophy of business that incorporates the old philosophy of helping. It’s that simple!
In addition to the charity work, we also established Pop & Lolli as a company that is 100% made in the USA. It is important for me to establish Pop & Lolli as a company that is conscious of every process of the product from beginning to end. It is vital to support local businesses and help with the growth of our own economy – especially since we launched the company during the recession in 2010! We believe that we have a social responsibility from the very start with the concept and creation of the product to well beyond when the product is sold, loved and enjoyed by the end-user. It also means much more and much better control over the quality of the product.
JEAN :: Have you been able to see firsthand the effects Chic 2 Change is having on children in South Africa?
MIA :: It’s a huge blessing to work very closely alongside the most incredible wonderful amazing people of Acres of Love, and get to visit with them regularly too. It is so rewarding to see the actual difference, help, hope and change in these children’s lives; that our donations help with – and it always makes us want to do more and give back more! The stories from how and where these children came from, before entering their new forever homes, and to witness their story of change and life, is inspiring and SO VERY MUCH WORTH IT ALL!
JEAN :: Anything you’d like to add?
MIA :: I have always had an intense passion for true African art and culture — the color and the vibrancy of the designs, the unique and extreme variance in style, and the fine attention to detail are all awe-inspiring. South Africa is a gorgeous country and has tons to offer — most people have a hard time believing we have 11 official languages! It’s a true rainbow nation and a melting pot of many great things. The textures, the landscapes, the sunsets, the smells, the food, the color, the languages — one can only listen, smell, observe, taste and feel to know Africa is in your blood. And if it’s in your blood it is a part of you, and you cannot help but to always be mesmerized and affected by it.
As mentioned before, I grew up in South Africa – in a super small, rural part of the country. As such, nature was a child’s best friend. This is probably one of the reasons why the nature, colors, sunsets, textured of the fields and crops and landscapes are so influential in my design thinking and creations. Growing up as a child was sure way different compared to today!! We were free to roam the fields and the farm, free to enjoy the pleasures and goodness of the earth ALL day long. We wanted to be outside. We had to be outside. Nature was our canvas in which to create our imaginary play. The trees, the flowers, the bugs, the animals … it all became the backdrop for every day’s activities. And what a wonderful blessing that is – infinite space & infinite beauty to allow one’s mind to run off wild!
I hope the nature of Pop & Lolli’s designs will serve as huge inspiration to kids across the world to enhance the outdoors and bring it alive inside their confined spaces. I believe our tell-your-own story-to-create-your-own-mural; mix-n-match and flexible designs will allow for such opportunities to enlarge any space and open windows (and opportunities) into a wonderful world of imagination and play!
JEAN :: Wow! Thank you so much for sharing, Mia! I love hearing how the natural world of your childhood has influenced your design work today! And kudos to you for “giving back” in such a life-changing way with Chic 2 Change. You’re an inspiration.
