What I Love About Summer -- A List of Summer Favorites

I have been LOVING summer lately and revelling in the pure summeriness of it. The warmth, the bare feet, the fruit, the color, the flowers.

I feel alive! Really, really alive.

This morning I was inspired to put together a list of some of my summer favorites:

  1. Waking up to birdsong
  2. Tank tops and sundresses
  3. Color, color everywhere
  4. The profusion of flowers in the garden
  5. Watching hummingbirds on the zinnias and the feeder
  6. Eating fresh cherries
  7. The smell of ripe peaches
  8. Gardening barefoot
  9. Warm summer rainstorms
  10. Fireflies

Maia and Daphne would add trips to the ice cream parlor, swimming, and making s'mores over a campfire to the list.

What's on your list of summer favorites?

Sitting on the deck at night with my husband, talking about our days and simply being in each other’s presence in the air of nature. It’s probably my favorite. :)

I love being able to get up in the early morning to go running and have it be LIGHT and the PERFECT TEMPERATURE!
And I WISH I could include fireflies on our list, but we don’t have any here in Utah. :-(

Our summer list includes anything outside: bike rides around the park, dinner on the deck, canoeing anywhere, and we just went on our first sailing trip yesterday! So good. :)

I grew up in Oregon and didn’t have any fireflies either, but remember childhood roadtrips to visit family in the east with fireflies and cicadas!

I am having to live vicariously through you all right now because I live in Southern Arizona and summer here means being stuck indoors unless you’re swimming. It’s just too darn hot to do anything else. Nobody has a deck, I’ve never seen a firefly and what’s a sailing trip? ;)

:) I guess it’s different for different parts of the country and world. What’s your favorite season in southern Arizona?

Did you ever get the tissue paper stain out of your table? I have the same problem and nothing is working!

Jean, It’s so hard to pick a favorite season! Fall is amazing because you finally get a break from the heat and can open up all the doors and windows and sleep with the cool air blowing through your house. In the winter, we can do just about all of our craft projects outside and, although it’s rare, there is something truly spectacular about seeing snow on cactus! :)

I live in Texas and I LOVE fall through early spring here because the humidity drops, we can open up all our windows and play outside. I agree with Melissa, it’s just too dang hot to do anything right now. :-).
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your book Jean. I’ve been carrying it with me everywhere I go for the past week.
