About Artful Parent

A home for creativity, connection, and joyful learning.

Artful Parent began with a simple idea:

that every child is born creative — and every family can nurture that creativity with just a little guidance, curiosity, and heart.

The foundations of Artful Parent were laid by a visionary in the children’s art world. She shared her family’s art adventures, started a toddler art group, revived classic creative practices, and helped parents see how simple materials could open a world of imagination for their kids.

Her work shaped a movement around process art, exploration, joyfulness, and a love of learning. That spirit remains at the core of who we are today and what we’re trying to do:

Protect the legacy of this site, keep its spirit alive, and expand it with the resources and vision to help even more families.

Evolution of Artful Parent

Artful Parent has been a beloved resource for families since 2008. In 2025, Artful Parent became part of Brown Brothers Media — a digital publishing group behind personality growth-focused, psychology-based, and creativity-driven brands visited by millions each month.

At the helm of the current chapter is Lachlan Brown, a new parent, writer and founder of Hack Spirit, who brings a deep focus on creativity, emotional growth, and modern family life.

We’re carrying the original spirit of the site forward — and expanding it for today’s families.

Who we are

Artful Parent is now developed and stewarded by a small, human-led team from Brown Brothers Media. We are writers, creators, and educators who care deeply about emotional development, creativity, and modern parenting.

You can learn more about the people behind the site on our Meet the team page.

What Artful Parent stands for

To be “artful”, you don’t need to achieve perfection. You need imagination, bravery, messiness, wonder — and the joy of making something together.

Core values

We carry forward the core values that shaped Artful Parent from the beginning:

  • creative expression
  • imagination
  • joyfulness
  • a love of learning

What we write about

Along with hands-on art, we now create content on:

  • emotional resilience

All of it is grounded in the original heart of Artful Parent: helping families grow through creativity.

Artful Parent on YouTube

How we support families and educators

Over time, we’ll continue creating tools, printables, and resources that help families make creativity a regular part of their lives — not something reserved only for weekends or holidays.

Artful Parent is a resource for families and educators who want:

  • simple art activities that actually get used
  • seasonal crafts that feel joyful, not stressful
  • ideas to support kids’ emotions and self-expression
  • practical ways to weave creativity into busy days

To collaborate with us, reach out here. We’d love to explore if we’re a good fit.

Our commitment

Every idea on this site is created or reviewed by real humans — parents, educators, and creators who understand how busy family life can be.

We promise to keep Artful Parent:

  • practical
  • warm
  • creative
  • grounded in real experience
  • always centered on the joy of learning

All ideas on this site are researched, human-edited, and rooted in real-life experience — not generic lists or filler content.

The spirit of the original Artful Parent remains the heart of what we do. We’re honored to continue building a place that inspires families to explore, create, and grow together — and we’re grateful to everyone who has been part of Artful Parent’s journey, past and present.

Welcome. We’re glad you’re here.
