Moms who still look young in their 60s and beyond often practice these 8 habits daily

You know what I noticed at the farmer’s market last weekend?

There was this woman helping her daughter pick out heirloom tomatoes, and I could’ve sworn they were sisters. Turns out she was the mom – and a grandmother at that! She moved with this easy grace, her skin practically glowing in the morning sun, and her energy was absolutely infectious.

It got me thinking about all the vibrant, youthful-looking moms I’ve met over the years who seem to have cracked some kind of code. These women in their 60s and beyond who still turn heads—not because they’re trying to look 25, but because they radiate this genuine vitality that’s impossible to fake.

After chatting with several of these amazing women (and taking mental notes like my life depended on it), I’ve noticed they all share certain daily habits. And before you roll your eyes thinking this is about expensive creams or procedures—it’s not. These are simple, doable practices that anyone can adopt.

1. They prioritize deep, quality sleep

Every single one of these women treats sleep like the sacred ritual it is. I used to think staying up late was just part of mom life, but these ladies taught me otherwise. They’re usually in bed by 10:30, maybe after some reading or gentle stretches – nothing too stimulating.

One woman told me she hasn’t seen midnight in years unless someone was sick. “Sleep is when your body repairs itself,” she said, and looking at her dewy complexion, I wasn’t about to argue. They guard their sleep schedule fiercely, even turning down late-night social events if it means compromising their rest.

The difference it makes is remarkable.

Dark circles? Barely visible. That tired, haggard look so many of us sport? Nowhere to be found. They wake up refreshed, and it shows in everything from their posture to their patience with grandkids.

2. They move their bodies gently but consistently

These women aren’t killing themselves at CrossFit or running marathons (though if that’s your thing, more power to you!). Instead, they practice gentle, consistent movement every single day. Morning stretches by an open window, evening walks, gardening, yoga – movement that feels good rather than punishing.

I learned this from a 68-year-old who could touch her toes easier than I could. She starts every morning with simple stretches, nothing fancy, just waking up her body gradually. “I’ve done this for 40 years,” she told me. “My body thanks me by staying flexible and pain-free.”

What struck me was how they view exercise – not as punishment for what they ate or a means to an end, but as a gift to their bodies. They choose activities they genuinely enjoy, which means they actually stick with them.

3. They eat real, whole foods without obsessing

Here’s what these women don’t do: diet. They don’t count calories, weigh their food, or follow the latest fad. What they do is eat real food, mostly plants, and they enjoy every bite.

Many of them make bone broth weekly in their slow cookers, sipping it throughout the week for its collagen and minerals. They shop the perimeter of grocery stores, cook from scratch when possible, and treat meals as opportunities to nourish themselves, not restrict themselves.

One thing I’ve noticed? They all seem to have a relaxed relationship with food. Birthday cake? They’ll have a slice and enjoy it. Daily processed snacks? Not so much. They’ve found this beautiful balance that keeps them satisfied and glowing.

4. They stay hydrated like it’s their job

Water, water, everywhere. These women carry water bottles like accessories, sipping throughout the day without even thinking about it. Not fancy vitamin waters or energy drinks—just good old H2O, sometimes with a slice of lemon or cucumber.

“Dehydration ages you faster than almost anything,” one woman explained, and research backs this up. Proper hydration keeps skin plump, helps with digestion, maintains energy levels, and even helps with mental clarity. They aim for that clear-to-pale-yellow urine color (yes, they check!) as their hydration gauge.

5. They protect their skin religiously

Before you assume this means expensive skincare routines, let me stop you right there. The women I’m talking about have surprisingly simple approaches. Sun protection is their number one priority – hats, sunscreen, seeking shade during peak hours.

Many of them have been moisturizing daily since their 20s, nothing fancy, just consistent care. They remove makeup every single night without fail, and they’re gentle with their skin – no harsh scrubbing or aggressive treatments.

Several mentioned making their own simple products with ingredients like honey, oatmeal, or oils. It’s less about the products and more about the consistency and care they show their skin every single day.

6. They maintain strong social connections

Loneliness ages people—you can see it in their eyes, their posture, their energy. These vibrant women prioritize relationships like their youth depends on it (because maybe it does). Weekly coffee dates, book clubs, volunteer work, regular family dinners – they stay connected.

What’s interesting is how they choose their connections. They’ve learned to set boundaries with toxic people and invest in relationships that lift them up. Quality over quantity, always. They laugh often, share their struggles, and show up for others consistently.

7. They keep their stress in check

These women have mastered something many of us struggle with: stress management. They’ve developed daily practices that keep them grounded – nature walks, creative hobbies, journaling, prayer or meditation.

They’re not stress-free (who is?), but they’ve learned not to let stress take up permanent residence in their bodies. When life gets overwhelming, they have tools ready: deep breathing, calling a friend, stepping outside for fresh air, or simply saying no to additional commitments.

Setting boundaries seems to be a superpower they’ve all developed. They know their limits and respect them, understanding that saying no to one thing means saying yes to their wellbeing.

8. They never stop learning and growing

Perhaps the most striking thing about these women is their curiosity. They read books, take classes, learn new skills, travel when possible. Their minds stay sharp because they keep challenging themselves.

One 64-year-old just learned to make sourdough bread. Another started painting at 62. They embrace technology enough to stay connected but don’t let it dominate their lives. They ask questions, seek out new experiences, and maintain a sense of wonder about the world.

This mental vitality shows in their eyes – that spark that makes someone seem ageless regardless of the number on their birthday cake.

Closing thoughts

Looking at these habits, nothing here requires a fortune or special genetics. These women have simply committed to taking care of themselves daily, in small, sustainable ways. They’ve learned that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s necessary.

What strikes me most is their consistency. They don’t do these things occasionally or when they remember. These habits are as automatic as brushing their teeth. They’ve woven wellness into the fabric of their daily lives.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by this list, start with one habit. Just one. Master it until it becomes second nature, then add another. Remember, these women have been building these habits for decades. You don’t need to transform overnight.

The secret to looking young in your 60s and beyond isn’t really a secret at all. It’s showing up for yourself every single day, in small but meaningful ways. It’s treating your body and mind with respect and kindness. It’s understanding that how you live today determines how you’ll look and feel tomorrow.

These women aren’t trying to turn back time – they’re simply aging with grace, vitality, and joy. And honestly? That’s the most beautiful thing of all.
