Learn how to make a sweet pom pom garland with your kids! String pom poms onto embroidery thread and string up for a fun and festive garland!
We recently discovered we could make pom pom garlands very easily when we made these thankful handprint garlands. You simply string large pom poms from the craft store onto embroidery thread using a thick yarn needle. Who knew?!
With this new knowledge in hand, we decided to make some garlands to decorate our home and our Christmas tree with. My six and seven year olds could both easily create garlands and had a blast coming up with different color combinations.
You can make these garlands at Christmastime to decorate your tree with, or make them any time of year! We love the idea of making different ones for each holiday (think pink and red for Valentine’s, orange and black for Halloween, etc.).
How to Make a Pom Pom Garland
MATERIALS
- Large pom poms
- Embroidery thread
- Large blunt needle
- Beads (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Prep needle and thread
Cut a length of embroidery thread twice as long as you want your garland to be. Thread your needle, double up the thread and tie a knot at the end.
- Make your garland
Push your needle through the center (or as close to it as you can get) of a pom pom and string it along the thread. Repeat with as many pom poms as you like until you are satisfied with your garland!
If you’d like, you can also mix in wooden beads with the pom poms.
- Hang it up!
Find a special spot for your garland and hang it up!
That’s all there is to it! Once we made one garland, we wanted to make more and more! We currently have them hanging up in several spots in our home including our tree!
