If your kids are looking to make some decorations for Thanksgiving, they’re probably going to want to make some turkeys! But these birds can be a little tricky to draw.

1. Draw a Turkey

You can do this several ways. We love the handprint trick for the youngest artists. Simply trace your child’s hand and let them add the details, including colorful feathers for each finger. Or, for older kids, if your child can think in terms of shapes, a turkey is a little more manageable to draw. A circle for the body, ovals for the feathers, neck and head, and you’ve got it!

2. Collage a Turkey

If you don’t want to draw your turkey, you can collage it! Use brown paper for the body, and then any number of materials for the feathers! We printed patterns on a bunch of paper scraps with Autumn colors for these turkeys.

3. Turkey Crafts with Feathers

Or you can collage a turkey using real feathers! Your kids will love adding as many feathers to their turkeys as they can!

4. Playdough Turkey

We love this method for making turkeys! Whip up a batch of playdough and use food coloring to make brown, red, orange and yellow. Your kids will have so much fun making turkeys again and again!

5. Leaf Turkey Craft

After an Autumn nature walk, use all of the colorful leaves you gather as the feathers of your turkey!

Which of these turkey crafts will you try this November? We also love setting out a variety of these materials together with some scissors and glue sticks, and letting kids come up with all kinds of turkeys (and other creatures!). This is a great collaborative art activity for cousins and friends of all ages to work on together before dinner on Thanksgiving Day!
