Create a beautiful nature collage by arranging flowers and leaves on cardboard. You can glue them on or use rubber bands for ephemeral art.

How lovely are these nature collages?! Our contributor, Rachel, made them with her kids and we think they are stunning.

Making a nature collage is such a fun and easy way for kids to get creative with things they find outside! Just grab some cardboard, a little glue (or rubber bands for a no-mess option), and let them design their own masterpiece with leaves, flowers, acorns, and twigs.

Picking nature items and gluing or attaching them with rubber bands is simple enough for even the youngest artists. Plus, there’s no right or wrong way to do it—just collecting and creating! Whether they make a keepsake or a temporary design, it’s a simple, screen-free activity kids will love.

MATERIALS

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Go on a nature walk

First, go on a nature walk and let kids collect leaves, petals, flowers, grass, and small twigs.

Set out your nature items on a table with the other materials.

  2. Prepare your base

Cut a piece of cardboard to the size and shape you’d like. If you are using rubber bands, stretch 2-4 bands around the cardboard going both ways.

  3. Create your collage

If you are gluing your collage, you probably want to arrange and place your items on the cardboard and create a design first. Once your items are arranged the way you want, glue the pieces in place.

If you are using rubber bands, slide leaves, petals, and small flowers under the rubber bands. This makes the collage temporary and changeable!

  4. Display!

When your collage is exactly the way you want, display it in a special spot!

This is such a fun and easy way to use all the items your kids gather on nature walks. And the best part is if you are using rubber bands, kids can swap out different nature pieces whenever they like.
