Winter is officially here so how about some winter art projects for kids?

Most art activities are wonderful all year round, but here are some that are especially suited to winter because of the themes or materials. We have fun winter art ideas with snow, snowflakes, ice and snowmen and beautiful wintry trees!

Draw a snowman with white oil pastels or crayons, then paint over with blue watercolors for a sparkly and snowy scene!

Have you tried puffy paint yet? It’s so easy to make with flour, salt, water and food coloring! Put paint in a squirt bottle and squeeze on cardboard or poster board to create winter themed puffy paintings.

A simple and colorful sculpture project for kids to build inside or outside! Freeze colored water in muffin tins and stack shapes to create ice sculptures. If your home is in a cold weather place, simply place containers outdoors!

Press pieces of yarn to sticky contact paper to create your own unique snowflakes. Frame the contact paper with a paper plate and hang in the window or around the house! This is a fun art activity for a variety of ages.

We love this wintry spin on one of our all-time favorite process art activities. Simply draw snowflake designs in white glue and sprinkle on salt for a beautiful sparkle! Or paint the still-wet salt and glue designs with watercolors for a vibrant picture.
