Experiment with the wet-on-wet watercolor technique by using cookie cutters to make watercolor shapes! These make great notecards.
This project from the Kids Art Spot is a simple way for kids to try the wet-on-wet watercolor technique. Children use cookie cutters as guides, painting the inside with water first, then adding watercolor paint. The paint spreads through the wet paper, creating blended effects that are fun to watch and experiment with.
Once the shapes dry, they can be cut out and used to make handmade cards or added to other art projects. It’s an activity that works well for a wide range of ages and doesn’t require any special skills, plus, it’s easy to set up and is relatively low-mess. Just a few materials and you’re ready to go.
This activity is also featured in our 12 Watercolor Techniques for Kids booklet, along with more fun ways to explore watercolor play.
