Make 3-dimensional bubble wands to use for creating multifaceted, geometric bubbles rather than the usual round bubbles.
We’ve made bubble wands with beads, super bubbles and even bubble prints! Bubbles are always a hit with kids, but have you ever seen a bubble inside a cube? This fun and easy activity lets kids create cool bubble shapes using just straws and pipe cleaners.
Kids will love building their own shapes and seeing what happens when they dip them in bubble solution. You can make cubes, pyramids, and even 3D hexagons! No fancy tools or skills needed—just some simple supplies and a bit of imagination.
This project is a favorite from our Bubbles Week at Kids’ Art Camp. It’s great for a summer afternoon or a math portion of a homeschool curriculum.

How to Make Geometric Bubbles

MATERIALS
- Bubble solution
- Drinking straws
- Pipe cleaners
- Scissors
- Container (big enough to hold your 3D shape)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Gather your materials
Before you begin, gather your materials. We suggest cutting your straws into equal lengths; 3 to 5 inches works well.
You can also cut pipe cleaners so that they’re a little longer than the straws you cut. You’ll use these to connect the straws and build the shapes. - To make a cube:
Gather 4 straws of equal length. Thread the 4 straw sections along a pipe cleaner and bend it at each intersection to create a square. Twist the ends together to hold it closed.
Slip another pipe cleaner through one of the straws, next to the pipe cleaner that’s already inside that straw. Add 3 straw sections to the pipe cleaner, one on one end and two on the other end.
Again, fold and bend it at the intersection to create a square. Continue this process until you have an entire cube of straws and pipe cleaners.
Attach an additional pipe cleaner to use as a handle. - To make a pyramid:
Gather 3 straws of equal length. Thread the 3 straw sections along a pipe cleaner and bend it to form a triangle, twisting the ends of the pipe cleaner together.
Then, slip another pipe cleaner through one of the straws sections that forms that triangle, next to the pipe cleaner that’s already inside that straw.
Add 2 more straws on either side and bend it to form a second triangle. Add the final straw piece to form your pyramid and twist all the pipe cleaners’ ends together to secure.
Attach an additional pipe cleaner to use as a handle. - Make bubbles!
Fill your container with bubble solution. Dip your geometric bubble wand into the bubble solution and lift it out. Watch as the bubbles form! Sometimes you’ll see bubbles inside bubbles or flat bubble walls!
We hope you try these fun geometric bubbles! See how many shapes you can come up with!
