Updated September 2024
Tangle doodling with zentangle designs is perfect any time of year but throw in the fun and spooky symbols of Halloween and you have the perfect starting point for an easy zentangle for kids.
Every kid we know loves when they finally learn how to draw a spiderweb, but why leave one blank when you can fill it with lots of fun little designs.
We like this tangle project because it’s easy to start, doesn’t take all day to complete, but still gives the awesome relaxation and focus benefits that we love about this technique.
How to Draw a Spiderweb with Zentangle Designs
MATERIALS
- Paper
- Compass or 3 sizes of round things to trace around
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Fine point black markers, like Microns or Sharpies
- Eraser
INSTRUCTIONS
- Draw 3 circles
To start your web, use a compass and lightly draw a large circle on your paper. Then two smaller circles to make a bullseye. You can also just trace 3 circles in different sizes.
- Add your lines
Use your ruler and pencil to lightly draw four lines that cross in the center, in a cross shape and then in an X shape.
- Add your spiderweb curves
Use your pencil to draw lines that curve in and go from line to line, following where you drew your circles, but the lines will curve in toward the center instead of out.
- Trace your spiderweb in marker
Draw over your pencil lines with your black marker (but not your circle lines!) and erase all pencil lines.
- Add your tangle designs!
Tangles can be any sort of doodle lines and shapes. You can search online for ‘Zentangle patterns’ or ‘tangle patterns’, or you can come up with your own ideas.
Have fun and play with how different patterns look together!

Want to take this step further? Add some color like orange, purple or green! Or try this with white gel pens on black paper.
We love this easy way to draw a spiderweb with the added fun of tangle designs! And don’t forget to add a spider!
