As you know, I buy our art supplies from a variety of places, both locally and online. One place I return to again and again is Stubby Pencil Studio, for the quality of the art supplies offered and because of the eco-friendly focus. I’ve also worked with Kate, Stubby Pencil’s owner, as a blog sponsor for years in the past and I consider her a friend (although we haven’t met in person yet!).
I’ve been wanting to write a post of my favorites from Stubby Pencil for a while now, and as I just received my most recent order of art and school supplies in the mail, I decided now would be a good time!
Some things I buy from Stubby Pencil Studio, year after year
Colored pencils :: We buy all of our colored pencils from Stubby Pencil Studio, both for home and school use. We especially like the groove pencils but have bought and used quite a few of them over the years.
Regular pencils :: Yep, these too. Most of our regular pencils are from Stubby Pencil.
Crayon rocks :: We love crayon rocks! Plus they make great gifts for the little people in our life.
Watercolor paints :: We’re always trying out whatever new watercolor paint sets Stubby Pencil offers (she changes them up fairly frequently) and have rarely been disappointed. They range from cheap but good to raw-ther expensive (but excellent, of course).
Pencil Sharpener :: This KUM double sharpener is awesome and we have used it for a while now. So this is not something we buy year after year, but rather something we bought once and use year after year.
Trying new art supplies from Stubby Pencil
I also really enjoy trying new art materials (I may, possibly have just a tiny bit of an art supply fetish) and like that Kate regularly adds new supplies to her online shop.
Watercolor pencils :: Kate sent me a set of her new jumbo watercolor pencils to try recently (for free, lucky me) and they are the best we’ve used yet. The color is so bright and they are truly water soluble. Look how well the pencil lines blurred into watercolor paint with the addition of water in my Instagram pic above!
Pencils :: I feel like each time I place an order with Stubby Pencil, I try out a different kind of graphite pencil. Both of my kids love their monkey pencils!
Acrylic paints :: I bought some of her little acrylic paints this past spring to put in the girls’ Easter baskets and really like them, especially the metallic acrylic paints. The pots are small, but the paints go a long way since they are thinner (craft paint style).
Scented markers :: I sent Maia to 4th grade earlier this week with these fun scented markers among her school supplies. No report yet on how well they work, but Maia was super excited about them!
Special reader discount
If you see some art supplies you’d like to buy from Stubby Pencil Studio, Kate has given me a special online discount code for you to use ::
APSAVE20 for 20% off your total order
Also, earlier this week, I asked Kate from Stubby Pencil if she’d be willing to offer a selection of my favorite kids’ art supplies as a giveaway on The Artful Parent. She said yes!
The Stubby Pencil Studio Kids Art Supply Giveaway Package
This giveaway package includes the following hand-picked selection of children’s art supplies. These are some of our favorites from Stubby Pencil Studio and is truly an awesome giveaway, whether for someone just dipping their toes into kids’ art, for a family struggling to find room in the budget for art supplies, or even for someone who is a self-described art supply junkie (not naming names!).
To enter the giveaway for the kids art supply package by Stubby Pencil Studio, leave a comment to this post by Thursday, August 28th at 11:59pm EST then head back up to the rafflecopter widget and tell it that you’re entering the giveaway. Winner will be chosen by random number generator and announced here on Friday, August 29th (I will also e-mail the winner). Giveaway open to US readers.
This is my second year teaching an art class at our local homeschool co-op (pre-k thru 1st grade). My 5 year old assists me with testing out projects for these classes. She has since told me she wants to grow up to be an artist! We have a lot of fun making art together. These supplies would make it all the sweeter! :)
You’ve given me such inspiration for incorporating more art in the lives of my children – we now have a basket of simple supplies on the kitchen table and art happens nearly every day. Looking forward to digging into your book as we begin homeschool in September.
I love to browse this website and look at all of the fun art supplies. My daughter has a wish list for her birthday – it would be wonderful to win this package for her!
We are always in need of art supplies, I’ve never bought anything from Stubby Pencil studio, but I’ve heard they are wonderful. :) Would love to try a few of their products.

Both of my girls LOVE painting. As soon as the youngest wakes up from her nap this afternoon we are going to create! I am digging the watercolor pencils and the metallic acrylic paint!
This all looks so amazing! I just started teaching art two days a week in my kids’ school and we always do art at home, so we’re surrounded by all this fun stuff all the time now. Would love this!
Really, is there anything better than brand new art supplies? Ahhhhh. They make me so happy! Thanks for these great recommendations! I would love the chance to win them! :)
I put my wrong email in before…This looks amazing for my new job I start Monday at our local Family Resource Center! I will be a Parents as Teacher Educator doing crafts, reading, art projects, etc. with families. Plus I have two little artsy girls myslef! I REALLY hope I win!
My two little girls are at their art table drawing day in-day out and doing projects from your book and e-books! We would love to win this giveaway! Thanks for the chance.
Hi! I’ve been following your weblog for some time now and
finally got the courage to go ahead and give you a shout out from New Caney Tx!
Just wanted to tell you keep up the fantastic job!
My 3 year old daughter started an art class this summer and has really become interested in art at home. I just found your website today and am really excited with all the new ideas here. Thanks!
What a delightful gift from Stubby Pencil Studio! Restocking our art supplies would be a lovely way to start thinking about all of the upcoming after school art we can do together. Thank you for the opportunity to win!
We learned about Stubby Pencil Studio from your wonderful book and your site. I just received our first order today, and was so impressed! I ordered some school supplies for our son entering kindergarten, as well as a few art supplies for both kids to use at home. We will definitely be ordering more items, and I have already marked some things for holidays and other special occasions. Thanks for introducing us to this great resource!
I’ve just recently found your website…and so glad that I have! I am always on the lookout for new art products and interesting ideas to use to challenge the imagination of our 3 1/2 year old grandson. He loves doing art ” projects.”
I had not heard of Stubby Pencil Studio and will now definitely bookmark them for future reference. Thanks!
Always so much good stuff at SPS. Those adorable monkey pencils! And those push-up metallic pencils are new to me — they look fun. Thanks for the giveaway!
These materials look fantastic and I’m always looking for new art materials to try with my daughter. You are truely an inspiration to all, sharing wonderful ideas and tips, your passion to educating your children (and others by sharing your Art world) in art is amazing and I hope to become the artful parent that you are. I love your page and have shared it with many if my friends.
My daughter would go nuts for this. I have never heard of push up crayons but they sound awesome. We’re just getting into colored pencils, but she loves pastels and painting anything. This would make her year. (Considering any new art supplies make her month.) Thank you for the info on stubby pencil, they will be my go to for the next round of supplies.
Wow, this is a truly awesome package of art supplies. My girls and I already love Ecojot sketchbooks; but paint sticks?! I didn’t even know those were a thing! I’m saving the giveaway list as a gift list for my four oldest, and me!
I just stumbled across your blog and have spent over an hour looking at art & craft ideas – I am so inspired. I would love to win this giveaway and try out some of your craft ideas with my two kids. Thank you!!
These look like so much fun! I really love art supplies as birthday gifts for kids too, in these days of too much stuff, there can never be too many art supplies. Now that I don’t have an income, I’m shopping out of my school supply boxes in the basement, but there’s nothing like the smell of a new box of crayons or the possibilities in a fresh box of watercolors. Makes me want to create something right away!
Hi! I just found your website through the While She Naps podcast. What an awesome website you have. I love doing art with my kids. You have so many great ideas, Thank YOU!! And thanks for the great giveaway!
Art is such a huge part of our life. Thank you for sharing art ideas with those of us that aren’t as creative. :) The supplies are awesome. I appreciate the opportunity. Above all, I can’t wait to incorporate your ideas and projects into our home school this year. Thank you.
I’m new to this blog and am so excited about all of the great products and ideas I’ve already come across. Thanks for the information about Stubby Pencil Studio!
Oooh, what a giveaway! I am salivating over here! We’re a week away from school starting over here (aka the most expensive week of the yeaaaaaaaaaaaaar for teachers – haha!) and I’m sure a few extras would go a long way… though I know for a fact I’d be hoarding those monkey pencils for myself! haha! How could you NOT? They’re precious!
Amazing collection/giveaway! We ordered from Stubby Pencil last year. Great tools. Great quality. I like that it supports someone local to me in the NW.
thank you for this generous giveaway!! who couldn’t use more art supplies; pencils, crayons, paints, etc!! <3 (I have never tried this brand before, looking forward to using them!)
I have been looking for good children’s art supplies. Thanks for the suggestions. My kids LOVE art, and I love getting new supplies for them to try. I’ve always just used crayola, but I’ve been trying to branch out and get something better.
This is the first time I heard of Stubby Pencil Studio. Thank you for sharing that resource. Also my daughter would think it’s early Christmas if we won this :)
I have been meaning to comment on her for some time, since discovering this amazing site. My daughter has a condition called Rett Syndrome which causes her to not be able to walk, talk, or use her hands functionally. I LOVEthis site because so much of it is open-ended and focuses more on the process and creativity than a boring, cookie-cutter end result. Those types of activities are just not feasible (or fun) for us. And I LOVE all of the book lists you often post, we read a ton. Anyway, we would love to win some of your favorite art supplies. Thank you so much for this site, it is my go to place for finding fun, creative, and possible activities to do with my daughter!
I buy my daughter’s school pencils from The Stubby Pencil Studio. The lead never breaks inside the pencil. This year I bought her the soy crayons for school. Thank you for the giveaway and the discount code.
I appreciate all your wonderful posts, Jean. It’s so nice to get a boost of inspiration from you to take back to my preschool classes. Thanks for the giveaway!
Thanks for letting us now about this great resource! I can tell that I will need to have some serious self-restraint :). I’m trying to build up art supplies for my boys.
I am just building up some art supplies for my girls now that they are becoming more capable of creating artful messes. Thanks for the list of ideas and the discount code!
Thanks for your review of all those supplies! There are so many to chose from, it’s great to hear what someone else has enjoyed! Thanks, too, for the giveaway!
I love the paint sticks – how cool! And the jumbo colored pencils are such a great idea – why didn’t anyone else think of that? :) Thanks for the giveaway!
I ordered some Easter basket fillers from Stubby Pencil Studio and were so happy with the items we received! Thank you for highlighting more items to try on my next order!
Thank you for this post and giveaway! I am very excited, and look forward to all the amazing creative opportunities with my kids and friends!
Sincerely,
Christina
As a former ART teacher, art therapist and a home school mom, nothing gets me more excited than ART SUPPLIES! Love the name Stubby Pencil, brings to mind hours of uninterrupted art making and honoring the soul! Thanks for the chance to win. Better than the lottery!
Love these! We have an art room where my two girls keep all of their art supplies. Most of the supplies are part of the decoration and these would work perfectly!
This giveaway would make my kids crafting addicts. They are already on the verge. This would be a great way to push them over the edge. In a good way of course!. :-)
We love art supplies. My girls and my son love drawing and crafting. We are often at ACMoore picking out new art supplies to try. We bought gesso last weekend for some cardboard art we want to try from your blog.
I just starting following your blog and I am in awe of your creativity and the commitment to your children and ours!!
What a wonderful giveaway. It would be a blessing for our home :)
Thanks so much for the give-away! Though I was just going through the craft closet today and we are over loaded in some things that we actually NEED to do some crayon art or melting things ;) The kids need more supplies like I need a hole in my head ;) Love your blog!
My preschooler would go crazy over these. Her studio (art) teacher tells me everyday how engaged my daughter is in her art sessions. It is because we do some type of art project daily. Her favorite medium is paint but we also use crayons, watercolors, markers, dry erase, glue, shaving cream, food coloring, etc. The happiness that art brings to her far outweighs the clean up her art brings to me.
I found you a couple of months ago and have been so excited and encouraged by your blog, book and eBook! I have a 4 year old and 1 year old (and one more on the way) and our home has started the transformation to a more artful existence. Thank you for your tips, ideas and giveaways such as this :)
These are amazing!!! I’m so excited to try some new stuff! Our art area could use a boost of new and exciting things to experiment with!!! Hope we win! If not the discount will be awesome!!
The colours of the various art materials are so vibrant and inviting, I want to use them, especially the rocks, it looks like colouring with jelly beans.
I stumbled across your blog recently and you’ve inspired me to turn our guest room into an art studio for my toddler (and me!). These supplies would be a great start toward stocking it!
I would love to win these supplies! I work at a performing arts center and would love it if I had extra supplies to give away to the kids for prizes and fun activities or for kids who can’t afford all of the supplies. Thanks for the chance!
My boys would love these beautiful supplies. I have been slowly been building our art corner based on your recommendations and can see how much the kids crave art exploration, getting in the zone of working with materials, discovering process.
What a lovely giveaway! We are trying to pick up art supplies here and there and the recommendations are great. It would be a fabulous win for a family on a budget (just as you said!)
What a great selection of materials. I really appreciate your review as I believe it is important to have quality art materials at home as well as in my classroom.
I love Eco-friendly art supplies and my twins just love to create! It’s hard keeping enough stocked in our house with the 4 other preschoolers I watch too! We go through supplies so fast! This would be amazing!
I love art! I grew up loving anything crafty and artsy, now with my two young toddlers I’m able to slow down and do projects with them. I love your posts and all your advice and ideas! Thanks!
Both of my kids are drawing and painting me out of house and home…and with the cold weather on the way I have to stock up now!!
These products look perfect for my little artists!!
Wow, what an amazing giveaway! Thank you this chance. Absolutely love your blog and would love the opportunity to try out some of the same supplies you and your children use <3

You are truely an inspiration to all, sharing wonderful ideas and tips, your passion to educating your children (and others by sharing your Art world) in art is amazing and I hope to become the artful parent that you are. I love your page and have shared it with many if my friends.

August 21, 2014 at 10:20 pmMy daughter would go nuts for this. I have never heard of push up crayons but they sound awesome. We’re just getting into colored pencils, but she loves pastels and painting anything. This would make her year. (Considering any new art supplies make her month.) Thank you for the info on stubby pencil, they will be my go to for the next round of supplies.

August 21, 2014 at 10:45 pmThese look like so much fun!

August 23, 2014 at 8:38 amI have been meaning to comment on her for some time, since discovering this amazing site.

August 28, 2014 at 12:11 pmMy preschooler would go crazy over these.
