You may have noticed we LOVE Valentine’s Day here at the Artful Parent. All the hearts, all the love, all the crafts!

And what better way to combine all three is to throw a Valentine art party! It’s a fun and easy way for kids to celebrate love and friendship while getting creative!

We recently threw a Valentine art party for our kids and their friends. It was so much fun! Here’s how we did it.

1. Decorations

We love these craft ideas that double as Valentine decorations, but you can also keep it simple and stick with a theme of pink and red.

One of our favorite Artful Party ideas is to use a large piece of easel paper or kraft paper as a table covering and use a Sharpie marker to draw all kinds of thematic designs and pictures on the paper. For this party, we splurged for a coloring banner from Friends Art Lab. Everyone LOVED coloring in all the hearts!

2. Make and Take Craft Stations

Another Artful Party component is a few simple craft stations for kids to rotate through. These activities can double as an activity and a party favor all at the same time. Here are a few ideas for Valentine’s Day:

  • DIY valentines: One of our all time favorite heart crafts is decorating cardboard hearts! Cut out a heart for each child at the party (or use these precut ones!), set out some pink, red, and white tempera paint, plus all the pom poms, glitter, sequins, jewels you have. Let kids paint and then decorate their hearts to bring home.
  • Heart crowns: We had so much fun making these DIY party crowns on New Year’s Eve, but they really are perfect for any party celebration. Use a heart shaped cookie cutter to shape your pipe cleaners into hearts!
  • Friendship bracelets: Set up a friendship bracelet station with lots of colorful beads. Don’t forget the letter beads, so kids can write their own friendship messages!

3. Creative Play Artful Activities

We love to have a few creative play activities for kids to enjoy. These are open-ended activities, so that kids can come back to them over and over again if they like.

  • Valentine playdough bakery: Make a batch of homemade playdough and set it out with silicone muffin tin liners, rolling pins, candles, and sprinkles. Let kids set up their own bakery and make all kinds of pretend Valentine goodies.
  • Sensory table: An easy way to keep kids engaged is with some simple sensory play activities. When in doubt, use your favorite sensory material and throw in some conversation hearts!
  • Coloring pages or banner: Use our Hearts Creativity Pack to print out some sweet coloring pages and drawing prompts. Or use the kraft paper table covering as a Valentine banner!

4. Snacks

Every party has to have snacks, right?! We bake heart-shaped cookies and set them out with bowls of frosting and lots of sprinkles. Kids have fun decorating and then eating their cookies!

We hope these ideas and tips inspire and help you throw the best Halloween Art Party this season! And if you do, be sure to tag us in any photos you share on Instagram @theartfulparent!
