Do your kids love playhouses as much as mine? Whether they rig something up themselves (often) or my husband and I set something up for them (once in a while), my daughters and their friends absolutely LOVE playing in their house within a house. Having an intimate space with defined borders just their size inspires all kinds of creative play.
Here are just 6 of the kids’ playhouses, forts, and tents that we’ve enjoyed:
What sorts of playhouses or forts do your kids build?

February 22, 2013 at 8:46 amAfter discovering that when the kids use our pile of quilts for a fort it knocks over our dining room chairs and stools- they’re just too heavy!- I made my daughter a fort kit for her birthday. A big drawstring bag, 4 of those heavy wood play clips, and a bunch of thrift store sheets. The sheets I tore up a bit to make more manageable. It’s a well loved and used gift- they love setting up a movie theater but its also so washable and compact that they take it outside whenever I’ll let them and I’ll find all the neighbor kids under the fort with my own. I think I love it as much as they do!

February 22, 2013 at 12:30 pmI love these ideas. This year for Christmas my husband made my daughter a collapsible cardboard cubby. She’s 10 months old and loves crawling in and out during play time, often taking her current favourite toy with her. It probably won’t last very long, but she’ll outgrow it soon, anyway.

February 22, 2013 at 5:14 pmIf my daughter sees this, she won’t settle for that fleece blanket thrown over the couch. I really like the Playhouse Under the Table. Thanks for the inspiration.

February 22, 2013 at 8:42 pmOh my goodness! I love the fabric over a table with windows cut out of it – is that what I am seeing? My kids make forts everywhere they can – behind a chair, behind a flipped up mattress – – we have a large, lightweight parachute that gets used often!
