Here are 5 of our favorite Fall book crafts, inspired by lovely autumnal picture books. Each book is paired with a creative activity, perfect for connecting with your kids.

At the Artful Parent, we love a good book list. And luckily for us, we have the Artful Parent Book Review team creating thoughtful, curated book lists for every season, holiday, and theme.

The only thing we might love more than a book list is the perfect pairing of a book and craft. If you’re like us, you might get inspired by the beautiful illustrations of a picture book and feel the urge to create with your kids. But what to create?!

We’ve paired 5 sweet Fall books with art projects guaranteed to help you connect and create with your kids this season.

1. Woodland Dreams by Karen Jameson, Illustrated by Marc Boutavant

This beautifully illustrated book follows different woodland animals as they prepare to sleep for the winter. Get Creative: Create your own scratch art leaves that mirror the high-contrast illustrations in the book. Then, hang your leaves up in a seasonal garland!

2. Hungry Bunny by Claudia Rueda

Follow along as Bunny picks apples for his mama’s pie in this sweet interactive book. Get Creative: Try this Fall classic! Kids of all ages love apple printing and it’s so simple. If your little one has a hard time grasping the apples, you can cut out wedges to create a handle.

3. Storm by Sam Usher

This windy fall day is the perfect day to fly a kite! The book’s bright illustrations, featuring colorful leaves, offer plenty of creative inspiration. Get Creative: Use tempera paint sticks to create colorful leaf prints! Try using autumnal colors, or try neon colors, like in this post.

4. Almost a Full Moon by Hawksley Workman, illustrated by Jensine Eckwall

Based on a song of the same name, this book is a warm and joyful celebration of togetherness. Get Creative: Work together to make a delicious vegetable soup like in the story.  But wait – don’t compost those vegetable scraps quite yet!  Use the ends of vegetables (celery and carrots work well) as stamps for some fun printmaking art.

5. Hocus Pocus, It’s Fall! by Anne Sibley O’Brien, illustrated by Susan Gal

A lovely book of all the wonderful changes that happen in fall. Get Creative:  Go for a nature walk and collect acorns and pinecones. Then use metallic gold or silver paint and paint the nature items you found. Use your painted acorns as a decoration or in a fall sensory bin!
