Try these 7 Halloween sensory bin ideas for engaged sensory play that is slightly spooky and oh so fun!
Updated September 2023
We love sensory play. Besides being really great for kids’ development, it is super fun!
There are tons of amazing sensory materials out there, and they all lend themselves to Halloween! All you really need area few spooky accessories (we often grab little items from the dollar store, like spider rings, eyeballs, and mini pumpkins). Here are some of our favorite Halloween sensory set ups.
And don’t miss 10 Fall Sensory Play Activities for Kids that are taste safe as well––a good fit for older babies & young toddlers.
Halloween Sensory Bin Ideas
1. Chocolate Cloud Dough
Mix in cocoa powder to the basic cloud dough recipe and incorporate. This is extra cute with candy corns and little pumpkins.
2. Candy Corn Aquafaba
Whip up a batch of aquafaba, add some sprinkles and candy corn and you’re good to go!
3. Spooky Halloween Rice
Did you know you can dye rice? It’s super easy and perfect for holiday sensory bins! Simply add a teaspoon of vinegar and a squirt of food coloring or liquid watercolors to a bag of rice. Seal and shake to incorporate color into the rice. Let dry and rice will keep indefinitely. We love the addition of that spooky rat to this black rice set up.
4. Monster Mash Kinetic Sand
We put everything but the kitchen sink into this set up! Our kids had a blast using the skeleton hands to make handprints in the sand.
6. Cloud Dough Halloween Bake Shop
Add sprinkles and candy pumpkins to a batch of cloud dough and set up a pretend bakery!
5. Slithering Snake Rainbow Rice
Halloween mini erasers, plastic snakes and colorful balls provide an exciting sensory play set up for kids.
7. Wash a Pumpkin!
Keep it simple! Fill a bin with water, throw a few pumpkins in and your kids will have a blast washing the pumpkins.
