party crowns

Turn headbands into fun party crowns using pipe cleaners and a few simple add ons! This easy DIY is perfect for any celebration.

We saw these party crowns making the rounds on social media when looking for some fun New Years crafts for kids and just had to give them a try. They were the perfect creative activity for our quiet afternoon leading up to New Year’s Eve and made the perfect accessory for the evening’s festivities!

But these crowns are a great creative activity for birthday parties, play dates, or afternoons at home. They only require a few materials and my kids had a blast adding pipe cleaner after pipe cleaner to their crowns!

If you need a little sparkle in your life, or if you need an activity for your kid’s next birthday party, these party crowns are it!

MATERIALS

  • Headbands (feel free to use ones you already have)
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Pom poms
  • Pony beads
  • Star cookie cutter
  • Hot glue gun (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Gather your materials

To begin, gather plain headbands, colorful pipe cleaners, pom-poms, and beads.

  2. Add pipe cleaners

To create your party crown, simply begin wrapping pipe cleaners around the headband. You can cover the entire headband with pipe cleaners or just the top part of it.

    curling pipe cleaners

To create antenna-like decorations on your crown, wrap the base of a pipe cleaner around the headband a few times and then let it stick straight up off the headband.

You can also curl it around your finger to create a curlicue, zig zag it, or wrap the other end around a star cookie cutter to create a star shape!

  3. Add beads and pom poms

If you would like, string a few pony beads onto the various pipe cleaners sticking up off the crown.

You can also use a hot glue gun to attach pom poms to either the pipe cleaners or the base of the headband.

  4. Wear your crown!

Once you’ve decorated your crown exactly as you like it, pop it on your head!

These DIY party crowns came out so cute! My kids loved wearing them for New Year’s Eve (and the next day, and the next day!). And they will definitely be a fun craft at our next birthday party.
