Wool Felt Bugs with Beads from an Artterro Eco Kit

This post contains affiliate links. We’ve explored and enjoyed several of Artterro’s art kits for kids over the past couple of years, including their creativity kit, several of their art journals, their bookmaking kit, their art dolls kit, and now their wool felt bug kit.

There is always a surprising amount of creativity-inspiring goodness in each of their kits.

The folks at Artterro sent us their wool felt bug kit to try out and review recently.

The kids opened the package and oohed and aahed over the contents and then immediately started hoarding the treasures (beads, sequins, wool felt balls, and fuzzy fabric pieces). I had to step in and ask them to put everything in the middle of the table saying they could each take just a couple of things at a time as they needed them and they were working on them.

That was somewhat successful, although Maia quickly strung many of the felt balls into a caterpillar (something I hadn’t foreseen).

But it was okay. Daphne worked at a much more sedate pace and I ended up helping her rather than working on my own bug.

The kit says it’s for ages 7+ and as I sat there helping Daphne turn her ideas into reality (um, doing exactly what my 4 year old told me to do) I thought that perhaps I should have saved the kit for when Maia had a friend her own age over.

But it actually worked out well and Daphne was really into the whole bug-making process even though she wanted/needed me to do the sewing for her.

So in the end, I was glad I had brought out the art kit for Daphne as well as Maia. And it made me realize (once again) that just because there’s a suggested age for a product, doesn’t mean a younger children can’t enjoy it just as much in their own way and at their own level.

Daphne’s completed butterfly is pretty special. (The pink lace was added from our own stash because she decided the wings needed to be bigger and more in proportion with the face.)
