One consequence of being an artful parent is that you might end up with piles of kids’ artwork! Transforming that artwork into a bunting is a creative and eco-friendly way to display their colorful masterpieces.
By cutting their art into triangles (or other fun shapes!) and stringing them together, you can make a festive decoration for any space. This simple craft helps repurpose artwork that might otherwise sit in a pile, giving it a fresh new life.

How to Make an Artful Bunting
MATERIALS
- Kids’ artwork*
- Scissors
- Hole punch (optional)
- Tape (optional)
- String
*Use artwork that you are okay with cutting up into smaller pieces. Some ideas include process art pieces like splatter painting, finger painting, marbling, or printmaking.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut your artwork
Cut the art into triangles. You can cut them freehand and make the triangles all different sizes. Or, if you want them to all be the same, then trace one triangle onto the art as a template.
- Make your bunting
You can either punch holes in the top two corners of each triangle and thread the string through each hole to create a bunting, or you can tape the string to the back of each triangle.
Add as many triangles to your bunting as you’d like.
- Hang up your bunting!
Hang you bunting up as a festive decoration!
This project lets you reuse your kids’ artwork and display it in a new, creative way! And the best part is you can make a new one for each season or holiday.
