I have never been a necklace or bracelet wearer. Never been into jewelry at all really. But I have a necklace that feels like a part of me even though it is new. I doubt I will ever take it off. This necklace holds a bit of my soul and a bit of my heart. My mission in life, too.
All captured in this simple and elegant piece of jewelry handcrafted for me by Julie Booras at Heart and Stone Jewelry.
When Julie offered to create something for me to review on my blog, I thought it would be just that. A piece of jewelry that I might wear a couple of times, admire, and write about. Really nice, of course, but maybe not truly my thing.
I didn’t expect to fall in love.
Didn’t expect my strong, “Yes! That’s so me!”
When Julie first asked me what I might like, I fastened on her wing charm and asked if she could pair it with a simple disk with words that embodied the roots & wings quote that I love so much.
There are two things we should give our children: one is roots and the other is wings. -Hodding Carter
I feel that it is my mission to help create roots and wings for my children, the children of the world, and myself. I also believe in creating. Creating art, a life worth living, and a self to be proud of.
When I opened the box that arrived on my doorstep a couple weeks ago, I fell in love immediately. The silver disk says “Create” on one side and “Roots & Wings” on the other and is paired with the little silver wing. I put it on and haven’t taken it off. It feels like a part of me.
The necklace itself is lightweight and comfortable.
But it’s the message that embodies my soul, my heart, my mission. It feels like a bit of me captured in a simple and elegant piece of jewelry that I can wear outside my body as a reminder to myself and others of who I am on the inside.
I imagine that’s what all the recipients of Heart and Stone Jewelry feel. Whether they wear a charm necklace with their loved ones’ names and birth dates, their birthstone, or one of the Giving is Good collection.
The jewelry is so personal that it surely feels as much a part of the wearer as mine does.
When I asked Julie if she would be willing to offer the same necklace to Artful Parent readers who might also find the Create/Roots & Wings idea meaningful, she said yes!
